WHAT HAS NEW MOON TO DO
WITH ABDUL KADAR?
There is a famous proverb in Tamil."Amavaasaikkum Abdul kadarukkum enna daa sambandham".To express it in English it amounts to saying what has new moon [ Amavasya] to do with Abdulla.Islaimic culture is different.Hindu's culture is different.Amavasya is the starting of the waning of the moon and most of the Islaimic festivals they watch the moon and declare that the the fasting starts today .The day of Ramzan fast breaking the entire world were looking at leading Islaimic priests mostly from Saudi Arabia to officially announce that Ramzan nonbu can be broken from this day like that. When Islaimic and Hindus cultural tradition has a great analogy of the moon's waning and waxing period for their religious calculation the above proverb is a misnomer.Who invented this proverb. Is it because of the sonic beginning of the words Amavasya and Abdul kader.I was breaking my head.
Can anybody give me the story behind the proverb.
In my practical experience there is a an analogy between Amavasya and Abdulla ? How? you are eagerto know ? Is it not?.Let me present you this musical story
When I was in Muscat I had a best friend and colleague by name Abdulla. He is basically an Omani national but had his education and all fro British Curriculum. He was the personal manager of our company Abdulla is just a calm and nice guy to move and has played a great role in resolving Arabian licences and documentation for the plant operation , consent orders , environment control and all other labor oriented issues also.In amonth I have been going to local government offices atleat twice or thrice.Meeting Arabic personalities and interacting with them is a great experience. We think that Arabic people do not know much on legal and labour administration. Some of the Omanis speak a verygood English and were very clear on the technical requirement. This is to give an insight of the Oman Nationals personality.
Now let me concentrate more on my days with Abdulla.Going with him in car is a three hours journryand we were talking on various subjects while driving. You must have already guessed my topic was50% on music. He use to play omani music cassettes. The omanese musics were totally different. They
repeat some verses with a unique avarohana.Day by day I started loving that music also. They use a musical instrument which resembles our magudi and some percussion instruments too to sing some of their music. The music when you closely observe resemble some of the tamil music also.some of the tunes match with the "Gana" type of songs When I heard them our music director Deva only vomes to the mind of this vasudeva.During the trips I picked up their tunes so fast that in month time I recorded some selected somgs of Deva and westarted playing this on some of the trips. Then I took the Arabic music cassette from Abdulla recordedatleast some four songs alternately in Arabic and Tamil. These cassettes were our favorite music in the subsequent days.Alternately in Arabic and tamil it was just a thrilling experience for me.
Abdulla's face showing thousand moons on his face is great to watch and no doubt Abdulla and amavasya have a great synergy - in the world of music arabian or classic south Indian.
What do you understand or infer from this. For me only one thing.Music has no barriers.Absolutely no barriers of culture and language.
Now Govinsamy says" Yar sonnathu? Abdullavukkum amavasaikkum sambandam undu" i.e There is a synergy between Abdulla and Amavasya.
Thank you Govinsamy!I fully agree withyou!
p.s: I will attach those famous arabic music files in a day or two.Pl hang on around for 24 hrs please.
